Restless Night Maya, Photoshop, ZBrush June 2008
This is my interpretation of Beowulf on the night he awaits Grendel's attack. This is my first attempt at a complete realistic character. There was a ton of R&D here, basially the entire project was a learning experience. I think this model was a valuable lesson on what not to do, Murphy's Law was demonstrated on almost every phase of the pipeline. But finally I'm done and I've picked up some skills I that should help me break into the industry. The most prominant things I've learned:
Edgeflow/topology
Zbrush
Subsurface Scattering
High Dynamic Range
Ambient Occlusion
Maya Hair and Fur
Compositing
I'm not too satisfied with the hair myself, I think I'll try Shave and a Haircut next time as I've had some difficulties setting up the hair and fur, a big time waster. Feel free to crit, I know there are a lot of things that need work but I had to stop some time. I will keep all major revisions in mind for my next project. This will be one of the projects I will showcase on a reel that I hope to complete soon. Thanks for looking.
